Goals and Objectives

The purpose of this project is to implement a model abstinence until marriage pregnancy prevention program to reduce the rates of teen pregnancy, births, sexual activity, and sexually transmitted diseases for children in foster care. Specifically, for target students in foster care our objectives are:
  1. To build a consensus for abstinence education within the foster care community.

  1. To increase knowledge and skills of teachers, staff, parents, and foster parents and childcare workers in promoting and teaching abstinence until marriage.

3. To increase the percentage of foster care children in the Options Consortium who complete the Options program and achieve the following goals: knowledge that abstinence is the only sure way of preventing STDs and pregnancy; understanding of the social, psychological, and health gains of abstinence; refusal and assertiveness skills; commitment to abstain from sexual activity until marriage, and intentions to avoid drug and substance abuse.
